Depending on the species of tree and age, the time of year can change, but as a rule there are two times of year to be avoided for deciduous trees. These are times when the tree is using the most energy.

• The first is in the spring around the time of bud burst when the tree is putting all its energy into producing new leaves or foliage.

There are many different types of fungi which can have a large number of different effects on trees. Some only act on dead wood, others can compromise the structural integrity of the whole tree.

One such fungus is meripilus giganteus which affects the root plate of trees, such as Beech. It is a particularly worrying fungus because what looks like a perfectly healthy tree could fall over with no warning. If you see any fungi or fruiting bodies on your trees and are worried by the tree, I would advise contacting Lloyds Tree Services so that the risk can be assessed.

The smaller diameter wood, i.e. anything up six or seven inches is chipped up. Wood chip can be very useful around the garden.

The larger wood is generally cut into man movable sections or can be cut up for firewood. If not required then it is stacked on the truck to be removed from site.

Depending on the type of tree it may be necessary to treat the stump in order to prevent suckers growing up from the remaining roots. The stump can then be left to rot away naturally or the main root bowl can be ground out using a stump cutter to a depth of around 250 to 300 mm below the ground surface. This might not be advisable in areas where there are known to be underground services.

This is again a question that is very much dependent on the individual situation and the amount of time it will take Lloyds Tree Services operatives to complete the job in a safe, efficient manner. For example if the job requires the use of lowering devices this might take longer than if the tree were in an open grassy area with no obstacles to be avoided.
